A Humble History

In the autumn of 2008, our founder embarked on a remarkable coffee-roasting odyssey right on his porch. Armed with nothing but a humble popcorn popper and a bag of green coffee beans, he ventured into the world of coffee craftsmanship. It wasn't all smooth sailing; there were fires, scorching mishaps, and a fair share of ruined beans. But amidst these challenges, a profound conviction guided his path - the belief that every talent and gift should be dedicated to both glorifying God and enriching the lives of others.

Simultaneously, our founder was deeply engaged with the homeless community, serving as a pastor at Church Under the Bridge Texarkana, and shouldering the role of Executive Director at Mission Texarkana, the city's primary feeding center. Moving beyond the porch and popcorn popper, he installed a fluid bed roaster at Mission Texarkana, where he not only began to perfect the art of roasting but also shared this valuable skill with those in need of employment and income. Through this transformative process, our community learned not only the intricacies of roasting but also gained expertise in marketing, public relations, salesmanship, food safety, and resource management.

In 2017, Mission Texarkana made history by becoming the first coffee roastery in our city. Fueled by the unwavering support of our incredible community and the local church, we soared to new heights. In 2020, a monumental milestone was reached with the acquisition and installation of a high-volume commercial coffee roaster, propelling us further on our mission.

With the dawn of this new era, a fresh name and brand were needed to capture our essence and reach a broader audience. Inspired by our unique origins, where some affectionately referred to themselves as "trolls" while regularly meeting under the downtown bridge and rooted in our humble beginnings of roasting beans on that back porch, Humble Troll Coffee Roasters was born.
